The BMW E30 Baur is the result of the collaboration between the BMW manufacturer and the coachbuilder Baur. This collaboration goes back to the beginning of the 20th century and will be expanded after the Second World War. When the E30 was launched, BMW did not offer an "in-house" cabriolet version and called on Baur who, as with the E21, took up the challenge. The fully assembled vehicles were sent to the coachbuilder, who removed the roof and rear pillars to install a roll bar to stiffen the whole and support the soft top. More than 14,000 cars were modified worldwide, which led BMW to offer its own convertible version, this time without a roll bar.
