The Fiat 124 Spider will be produced as a result of an agreement between Fiat and Mazda . While the latter will launch the Mazda MX5-ND , Fiat will launch its Spider by taking up the basics of the Mazda. Only the bodywork and the engine will be changed. Produced in Japan, to be finished in Italy, the Fiat will have sold 35,000 copies during its three and a half years of production. It will have sold in Europe with 23,000 copies, against only 10,000 in North America. With its 6-speed manual gearbox and 140 hp in Europe, it will be up to 160 hp and a manual or automatic transmission in North America. They will have in common the 1.4L and the 4-cylinder Fiat MultiAir.
